Galentine's Day, The Best Day of the Year!

Galentine's Day, The Best Day of the Year!

Ladies, the best day of the year is almost here!  While we never need an excuse to celebrate each other, it is pretty awesome to have a day just for us. Galentine's Day is the perfect reason to plan a night out (or in) with just the girls and the best part is, it's just around the corner.

 What is Galentine's Day?

Galentine’s Day is a concept initially coined by Leslie Knope (whom I love!) of Parks and Recreation over a decade ago, but it has gained popularity in mainstream culture. Traditionally celebrated on February 13th, it’s a day of ladies celebrating ladies. What could be better? So, I have rounded up my best girlfriend-worthy ideas to share with you.

Spend the night with your bestie

A best friend is someone like no other - she has been there with you through your best and your worst. She knows you like no one else, and while you may or may not have exactly the same taste in everything, you can definitely make a fun date doing just about anything!

Best friends

  • Enjoy some live music together, it's always good for the soul.
  • Host a spa night at home.
  • Get crafty and plan your own DIY night making a Pinterest-worthy craft you always wanted to try.
  • Pop some bubbly and paint pictures, oh this could get messy!
  • Schedule a boudoir photo shoot, some of the fun benefits are outlined below by the talented Megan Tracy of Megan Tracy Photo

“It's more than being photographed in lingerie it's about rediscovering your own forgotten beauty. It's about letting the human spirit be alive and captured in a photo. It's about letting every insecurity about yourself go and just being that fabulous woman you are” - Megan Tracy

Gather a group of your gal pals

Nothing beats a #girlsquad, a group of women who are always there for you to lift you up and support you. And who better to call on for adventures and fun times?  Your girlfriends will never let you down and take events to a whole new level compared to doing things with just your BFF.

  •  Glam Up - while it may sound cliche to plan primping time, almost nothing is more fun than a good hair day. Schedule an appointment with your girlfriends at a dry bar for a blow-out. Many also have a Prosecco bar on site, and then go out for a night of dining and dancing.
  • Go Bowling - reserve a lane at your favorite bowling alley, order some pizza and a pitcher of your favorite drink and have some friendly competition.
  • Organize a Secret Cupid - kind of like a Secret Santa, draw names and plan a fun gift swap. Half the fun will be getting everyone together and having snacks and drinks while the exchange takes place. If you don’t want to draw names ahead of time, options to this would be games like Yankee Swap or White Elephant type exchange.
  • Eat Cake - ya'll know how I feel about cake right? Well any excuse to grab something beautiful to eat!

  • Host a Girls Night - set the table, order some take out, grab a bottle of bubbly, and enjoy your night in. This year Galentine's Day is right in the middle of the week but you could always host a Galentine's Day brunch on the weekend just like did! Mother-Daughter Date Night

A mother daughter relationship is special. And if you aren’t able to spend time with your mom, grab another relative or a mentor you feel is special and let her know how much she means to you on Galentine’s Day.

  • Take a Day Trip - most areas have excursions that can be planned within a short distance, and some can be done pretty inexpensively. Visit someplace new, or return to a favorite destination. Either way, you will just enjoy the time together to catch up and enjoy each other’s company. And be sure to compile a great playlist for the car!
  • Plan a Spa Day - let her know how much you appreciate all she has done for her with some special pampering time. Plan to spend the day enjoying massages, facials, and a special spa luncheon. You will both feel relaxed and rejuvenated
  • Go Wine Tasting - spend the day at a vineyard, or visit a local wine shop and have the owner curate a collection for you to take home.  Assemble a charcuterie plate to accompany the wines as you sip the afternoon away. Spotify has some wine-tasting playlists all cued up for you as well!
  • My fave - grab a bottle of wine and snuggle up for a chic flick!

Make a Memory with Your Mini-Me

There is nothing quite like the bond between me and my little angel. I understand her like no one else, and I can’t help but see myself in her as she is growing up each day. It’s one of my greatest hopes that we will always have a close relationship, and celebrating her every day, not just Galentine’s Day, is one thing I love about being her mama!

  • Plan a Little One’s Brunch - Let your little one know to start creating her own Galentine’s Day traditions. Organize a small party with some of her besties and their mamas, and let her help you plan the decor, menu, and favors. Keep it simple, but elegant and fun. A local dollar spot may have holiday theme nail polish, bingo cards, and other games available inexpensive or create your own!

  • Attend a Mommy-and-Me Class - the choices for this are endless, and you can select something that your daughter has an interest in, or choose to learn something new: exercise, dance, mediation, yoga, cooking, or a craft. You might both come away with a new hobby!
  • Go Volunteering - most animals waiting for their forever homes need some TLC, and would welcome a visit for some cuddle time. Some local libraries also have programs where children can read to shelter dogs, which benefits not only the animals with bonding time but also the children by practicing their reading in front of a forgiving audience. She will learn how wonderful it feels to give back, and you will see the joy on her face as you both do good in your community.

No matter how you choose to enjoy Galentine’s Day this year, or who you choose to share it with, the important thing is - have fun and celebrate the most important woman or women in your life. And don’t forget to take pictures for you to look back on and remember the day!

Cheers ladies!
