Welcome to Evie's pink and gold 1st birthday party, she is so happy you're here! That first year goes so fast doesn't it? A first birthday is a bittersweet moment for moms. They are, of course, excited to see their little one growing up and reaching a milestone, but at the same time, turning one is the beginning to a little more independence - starting to walk (if they haven’t already!) and more. So, at Sugar Crush Co, we know first birthday celebrations are kind of a big deal. And we make sure our party-loving mammas have everything they need to make the day extra memorable.
One of our clients, Krystina, was so generous in sharing her daughter Evie’s special day with us. She is a mamma after my own heart, and loves planning out all the details - and we can tell because her event looked absolutely stunning! Gorgeous shades of pale pink, soft white, and glitter gold with magical unicorns, pretty hearts, and delicate flowers - and we are breathless! Those scrumptious looking cupcakes were made by Krystina herself! The sparkly gold unicorn cupcake toppers were made by Sugar Crush Co and can be found here as well as the pink and gold Welcome sign which Krystina framed in the loveliest metallic gold frame.
Krystina confessed she enjoyed the entire process of planning from deciding on the perfect invitations which set the tone for the party, writing out the guest list, meticulously choosing all the decorations (we are so glad she found us at Sugar Crush Co!), and selecting the menu for the day. Finally, add some fresh florals to your celebration like this stunning bouquet from Tulip bij Lëuk.
What is a party without a cake? This cake by Get Cake Crazzy is GORGEOUS. I LOVE the combination of the fondant on top and buttercream ruffles on the bottom. It is so elegant and girlie (just like Evie!). I bet it tasted delicious as well! Of course every cake needs to be topped with some sparkle, and thats where we come in. Krystina chose a simple and elegant gold cake topper to commemorate Evie's first birthday. After the party, store your cake topper in a scrapbook or shadow box to savour these special moments forever.
It seems to me that Evie loves cake, her mamma taught her well! Krystina suggests looking beyond the party aisle when shopping for birthday decor. Krystina was shopping in Michael’s Arts and Crafts Hobby Store looking at #allthecraftythings when she spotted the flower garlands. She she knew immediately she needed to use them somewhere as part of Evie’s celebration! So one went around her high hair to pretty it up, and a second was used around the back of the food table. Having two was a great idea for pulling in decor elements and rooms of the party, as well. Love it. The balloons by U Pick Parties were also the perfect touch for bringing the pink and gold party ingredients together.
This colour combination is so regal and there are so many ways to incorporate it into your little girl's party. Krystina chose this Happy Birthday banner to display over the food table. The best part is, the banner can be reused for years to come!
A chalkboard sign is a great way to capture all of the fun milestones of this first year! Krystina chose this one from Elsy and Grace. Simply choose from one of many gorgeous designs, email all of the sweet details to Renee, and there you have it, within 3 days you have a personalized chalkboard file from a talented mamma in Australia.
I love how Evie's mama chose a DIY version of this popular trend. Using some ribbon or twine depending on the feeling of the decor, use some mini clothespins found at the craft store and display some of your favorite pics from your baby’s first year. If you are a totally crafty mom and want to coordinate all the details, you can even paint the little clothespins with some acrylic craft paint to match your event colours, but I think this totally looks amazing either way - the focus will be on the baby 100%! This is an especially fun idea for friends and family who many love looking back on how much the guest of honor has changed over the last 12 months (and believe me they do!!)
One of my favorite pieces of advice Krystina shared was that she scheduled Evie’s cake smash photo session a few weeks before her actual birthday. It looks like Evie enjoyed getting into the cake so much, but at the same time, she still looks as delicate as ever and not *too* messy! I had to do a double take because these formal portraits were so on point with the color scheme of the actual party I had to make sure it wasn’t the same day! I love the simple set up with the silk flowers, faux fur rug, garland, not to mention the adorable romper and bow. Krystina used the same photographer and cake designer at both the cake smash and party, which really helped to tie it all together. JY Photography did an amazing job of capturing the joy that turning one brought to Evie at her special celebration and cake smash.
Her final reflection about Evie’s first birthday: Krystina writes, “I almost feel like I didn’t have time to feel emotional that day. There was so much hustle and bustle. However, when we sang happy birthday, my stomach did a flip. It just sunk in what was happening.” I completely feel you mamma, and I am sending you all the love and hugs to you and your beautiful daughter as you enjoy each special day of her first year.
