Somebunny is One!

Somebunny is One!

My babies are still little enough where they love to have their mama reading to them, and I treasure this time - even if it is the seventh consecutive time through the book!  One of the favorite books I received when my daughter was born for her nursery library was Guess How Much I Love You. While the Little Nutbrown Hare loves his dad (or mama when I am reading the book) as far as he can hop, of course his mama can hop higher!

And so it is our love for celebrating first birthday milestones is boundless!  Just like the hops of those bunnies!

Sweet Kiana’s mama, Krystal, chose to do a “Some Bunny is One” theme for her daughter’s spring birthday, and it couldn't have turned out sweeter!  Shades of pink from a pale blush, a trendy millennial pink, and a bright magenta, accented with a rich gold - and lets not forget sparkles! - made this a first birthday to remember.

I mean look at this little sweet little bunny!

Krystal shared she was excited to do a cake smash photo shoot for Kiana.  Although she has two older daughters, she hadn’t planned a session like this before.  She added, it was such a fun experience all around, she really wished she could go back in time and do it with her other daughters as well.  Ah, we mamas get wiser with experience, don’t we? Now all we need is Superman to fly around the earth and reverse time. . .

Pretty in Pink

Kiana’s tulle dress with the sequined top and matching shoes were to die for.  And how about that gorgeous oversized satin bow?! Krystal found these amazing pieces all on Etsy - my favorite source for handmade artisan pieces.  The dress she purchased through Belle Threads Boutique, and the adorable oversized bow she found at Tatum Lexi Boutique.

All About That Cake

Krystal found a beautiful floral buttercream rosette cake through the Facebook Marketplace (I think I need to start searching in there more often!),  through a baker local to her, Lillian Ramos. The cake topper was created by yours truly and can be personalize with any age, name and color to suit your party! We are also happy to make this topper with different symbols and images. For example, this cake topper is super popular for a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star birthday party theme or cake smash. Think hearts, stars, feathers, dinosaurs, Christmas trees, anything to make it personal and uniquely yours! Just contact us with your ideas.

Krystal told me that it was no trouble keeping Kiana in front of the cake. As soon as she saw it she went straight for it! That cake never had a chance!  And I agree it looks beautiful AND delicious, so who can blame this sweet little babe?  She seemed a little unsure at first. . .was this something to play with or a wonderful new food?  But once she was sure it was okay, she definitely enjoyed it.

Oh Snap!

Krystal chose to book her session with the very talented Delilah Alva, who specializes in commemorative occasions such as maternity, newborn, and family sessions. Delilah was more than prepared and had everything needed for setting a beautiful backdrop for this session, including this gilded cake stand (and you know how I feel about pink and gold!  My fave color combo!) .

Delilah was very professional and able to set Kiana at ease and get some great pictures!  One of her tricks was having Dad present at the session because he is so great at making his little princess smile.

Thank you so much Krystal for sharing all of the sweet details of this special celebration. We loved being a small party of it!

A Few Tips if for planning a cake smash

  • Have a vision
  • Book the photographer - around your little one's nap of course
  • Plan to have the cake smash separate from the party, parents and little ones will enjoy it more
  • Shop for the outfit (the most fun part I think!)
  • Choose a cake - fondant looks great but buttercream is way more fun to smash
  • Buy some coordinating decor: cake topper, banner, balloons, please don't forget Sugar Crush Co when you're shopping!
  • Check with your photographer to see what props they will provide
  • Bring some noise makers or toys that really get your little one's attention
  • Have fun!

See you soon friends!
